Built on a slope of Ossa mountain, with a view of the Valley of Tempi, Ampelakia is one of the most picturesque areas in Greece. In this village, tradition and history live in harmony, creating in visitors a sense of awe and contemplation.
The historic community of Ampelakia became known after the establishment of the first cooperative unit, involved in the trade of cotton fabrics and silk, under the name “Common Group and Brotherhood”, which paved the way for the cooperative movement in modern Greece.
The village has been declared a listed monument, and still preserves some stone-built houses today from the 18th and 19th century.
The Swartz mansion stands out in all its glory, a clear testament to the riches of that time. Another site of interest is the folklore museum, created through the personal efforts and initiative of the villagers, where objects owned by the locals are exhibited.
The abundance of churches, the village square with its plane trees and spring, greet the visitors roaming its cobblestone paths, who enjoy the spectacular view and feel in touch with the real, traditional, mountainous nature of Greece.
